MAME and coin-op alike are welcome here! This is my favorite arcade game of all time and I can buy it for only $50. According to the seller (which is an arcade) it needs a new board, but the gun still functions.
Looking online it looks like a new board is about $700. I fell like this is a unique opportunity that I won't get again. Is it hard to change this component out?Do you think I could find the part cheaper? (I don't live mainland US so shipping will be extra.)Is it worth it just to buy it and wait until the price drops?I am a complete noob, does this machine require a lot of maintenance?Any other good info?Update: The arcade couldn't tell me exactly what was wrong with it other than they think it's the 'motherboard'. They will let me come by and plug it in on Monday though, so maybe I'll have a better idea then. Thanks a lot guys!.
The boards can be repaired, although it seems like 700 is on the high end for it. The good news is, the cabinet is completely compatible with the original Police 911, which would be a cheaper mainboard purchase. I'm also fairly certain that you can swap out the CF and security key from 911 2 and it should work. As far as maintenance goes, they're pretty rock solid, just keep the movement sensors clean. Beacon light lamp is usually the only thing I've ever had to replace on the regular.
The gun is not specific either, you can easily use the HAPP 45 gun and harness with it.
